With the WP 5.5 update, this functionality will be part of the WordPress core. I just wanted to say thank you very much for building this plugin. It's been incredibly useful.
From the 5.5 notes:
"If updating plugins and themes manually is your thing, now that’s easier too — just upload a ZIP file."

This plugin unobtrusively performed a task that should have been part of core WordPress a long time back. A very well-made plugin that "just works" and has made life so much easier.
The upcoming WordPress 5.5 release will be adding this functionality natively, and so it is likely this plugin will see fewer installs or use going forward. Many thanks to the author for their efforts!
